In the realm of Cyber Security, it enables security teams to sift through large datasets, identify suspicious network activity, and swiftly and effectively respond to threats, outperforming traditional SIEM systems in both speed and accuracy.
According to Splunk, possessing a Splunk Core Certified User certification indicates that an individual can effectively perform searches, utilize fields, set up alerts, employ look-ups, and generate simple statistical reports and dashboards on the Splunk Enterprise or Splunk Cloud platforms. This entry-level certification highlights a person’s fundamental skills in operating and navigating Splunk software.
Exam Experience & Advice
The exam is administered by Splunk's testing partner, Pearson VUE, and is priced at $130 USD per attempt. It consists of 60 multiple-choice questions and has a duration of 60 minutes. The exam was straightforward, and I felt well-prepared after completing all of the eLearning Modules mentioned above. I also found that the allotted 60 minutes was enough to finish the exam comfortably.
For those preparing to take the exam, I would offer the following tips:
- Review the Exam Blueprint to understand the weighting of each section, which helps in prioritizing study efforts on the more heavily weighted areas.
- Engage in the labs provided with each module to gain practical experience with SPL and Splunk's features. Utilizing the Boss of The SOC challenges is also beneficial for practicing SPL searches.
- During the exam, it's common to encounter questions that may be confusing. My strategy for these situations is to choose an answer and mark the question for review later. This approach prevents time wastage and ensures that you don't overlook simpler questions that might appear later in the exam.
